About
Dr. Adile Nexha is a Founder and the Research Lead of Albanian Community Mental Health (ACMH), the first hub of its kind dedicated to Albanian mental health. At ACMH, she leads the research program, building the evidence base for culturally grounded care, and contributes across the organization's work in mental health care, education, and advocacy.
Dr. Nexha completed her Ph.D. at McMaster University, where she and Dr. Agako met during their doctoral studies, with a focus on Major Depressive Disorder, chronobiology, and circadian rhythms. She went on to complete a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Women's Mental Health and Depression Unit at Homewood Research Institute, supervised by Dr. Benicio Frey, and is currently completing a Master's in Psychotherapy at McMaster, deepening her clinical skills alongside her research expertise.
Her work explores how cultural identity, gender, and intergenerational trauma shape mental health across Albanian communities worldwide, integrating clinical care with culturally grounded research and advocating for approaches that recognize the lived experiences of immigrant and multicultural communities.
Her research spans women's mental health, hormonal sensitivity across reproductive phases, and trauma-informed practice, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her full publication list is available on ResearchGate.
Clinically, Dr. Nexha practices at West Niagara Psychology as a psychotherapist in training, under the supervision of Vera Woloshyn, Registered Psychotherapist, and Dr. Michelle Lohnes, Registered Psychologist. For clinical services, you can contact her there.
